Exigence was one of the rhetorical elements that was completely new to me and personally I never heard the word prior to this course . Exigence is a problem or some issue that prompts someone to write or speak out on their ideas. In other terms its something that one saw or heard in which they feel they need to write or speak about. With continuous use of the word I developed an understanding for the term and have implemented it into my writing.

When writing my expository and argumentative essay I had to choose a topic which I would research, write, and argue about. The common question came up, what is your exigence? I am an NBA fan and after the shooting of Jacob Blake many NBA players did refuse to play as a protest to police brutality and inequality. This stuck with me and made me want to research and write about the idea that athletes need to protest.
